A HOmE AT THE Shore

Springlake, NJ

Truth be told, my first full house reno was a pink dollhouse circa 1983. This house in Springlake NJ was my second. How thankful I was to land such a huge project to sink my design teeth into.

PROJECT

My clients had this home built from the ground up. They were very involved with every decision the architect presented. I came in as soon as the foundation was poured and their decision fatigue had already set in. I quickly connected with their wish list: a family-friendly house AT the beach. Not a traditional beach house in the way we would typically think of it. My goal was to keep the sensibilities of beach house living but elevate it to what you’d expect from a year-round residence. The shared living space in this home is just perfection. A big, beautiful and functional kitchen opens to an eat-in kitchen table and family room. This family of 6 can all sit comfortably in any of the spaces and linger for hours- separate but together. The color blue is a family favorite but we played with pops of yellow, orange, pinks and greens whenever we could. The copper hood in the kitchen is one of my favorite things in this house and gets lots of compliments from visitors.   This house is full of tile and we played with color and texture here with the help of the beautiful selections from Ann Sacks. One of the wife’s requests was a fun laundry room since the realities of a beach house include loads and loads of laundry.   Kelly green walls and a navy penny tile floor did the trick!
